B3 Paper Size

B3 format is used for small posters, enlargements for B4, and paintings... It is always printed by professionals.

This format was standardized following the adoption of ISO 216 in 1975. Sizes B were first defined by DIN 476 (German Institute for standards), then based on Lichtenberg’s ratio, using as an universal basis the square root of 2 as a proportion between length and width in all B formats = length = width x 1.14142.

B3 format is sized to accommodate human writing: 500 x 353 mm or 19.69 x 13.90 inches. Its total area is 0.176 m² The surface of B3 size can also be reported in square yard (0.21), in square foot (1.89) or in square inches (272.8).

B3 format is 1/s a B2 or ¼ a B1. However, it takes 2 B4 to form a B3 sheet, or 4 B5 sheets. To refer to the largest paper in ISO 216, B0, B3 format is 8 times smaller.

One can obtain the weight of one or more sheets of size B3 by comparing its range to paper weight. For example, for a paper of 160 g/m², size B3 sheet weighs: 0.176 x 160 = 28.16 grams.
